Get noticed by the “Big Players” by using Facebook!

If you are running your own business or trying to get a new job, you will always encounter an issue of getting in touch with the “movers and shakers”. If only you knew someone at the company for which you want to work for … If only you knew someone at the company that you would like to gain as your client… Having the social network that includes the big players is always a great advantage in both professional as well as personal life.  In this article, I will share some secrets with you on how to expand your social network, and mostly, reach the “influentials” by using Facebook!

If you have very limited time to invest in social media, invest it in Facebook. According to the research, Facebook bypasses other social networks as most valuable ( Because of all the applications, you can create such a good portrait of your life that people who don’t know you at all will get an impression that they have known you for years. I could talk about benefits of this social network for hours, maybe days, but that is beyond the scope of this article. Lets get down to how to use Facebook to reach the big players.

First step is to create a profile that is personable. Professional profile picture is a must. If you have your dream car, part of your body or best friend on your avatar, change it NOW. Also, fill out the fields indicating your interests and make it accessible to everybody, not only your friends (you can change this in your privacy settings).

Watch the content carefully – keep your target audience in mind. If you want people to hire you, you need to make the best impression possible. Imagine Facebook as your business card. In other words, skip the grammar mistakes, offensive language, inappropriate pictures etc.

First impress, then success! If you have a blog, install the Facebook application that allows you to connect your blog to Facebook. If you have LinkedIn or Twitter, make sure it is displayed on your wall. Any presentations, web sites, files that could show your target audience your value should be put out in the open.

Join the groups and fan pages that interest the big players: look for the key words such as luxury, golf, stone crab, Rolls Roice etc. After you join the groups, post something on the wall that others can identify with and that makes you look friendly and approachable. Suggest to people to connect with you!

View the members of your target group and add them as your friends. Being the part of the group is not enough. Most groups will allow you to view their members and you can choose who to add as a friend.  Adding people you don’t know on Facebook may seem intrusive at first and some people do not enjoy connecting with strangers, but once you will try adding few new friends, you will see that in most cases people are happy to connect with others regardless of whether they know you or not. However, one important point for you to remember when you are reaching out to “strangers” – do include a personal message with your friend request. This makes a world of difference, trust me. Writing a sentence or two that explains why you want to connect is a powerful tool in persuading others to add you.

Socialize, socialize, socialize. If you have been added by the new friends, wonderful! However, you cannot stop there. Send a message to the new contacts, post on their wall, comment on their posts, simply interact. Don’t just sit there and wait for them to contact you. You contact them. Of course, within the limits – don’t bombard them with 5 messages a day, but comment on their wall posts once in a while and send one friendly message that would explain more about who you are and that would leave space for further conversation (ask interesting questions, establish the common ground by looking at the profile and learning what the person likes etc.).

Lastly, feel free to connect with me on Facebook: I am always happy to connect with new people! If you have any more questions, comments or suggestions, bring it on! 🙂 Thank you all for your time & happy Valentine’s Day!
